CUPW (Atlantic) Regional Day of Action

By Toni MacAfee

Saturday, March 29, 2014 — CUPW Atlantic region held a regional day of action to oppose the attacks on our public postal service. Locals from all 4 provinces participated by hitting the streets to collect signatures on petitions and spent the day discussing with the public the misinformation around Canada Post’s five point plan. The public is not only overwhelmingly supportive; they have been thankful to postal workers for giving them the opportunity to raise their opposition to Canada Posts misguided plans.CP_action1

In Halifax, Nova Local focused on Bedford and Lower Sackville, 2 communities targeted by Canada Post for the elimination of door to door delivery commencing this fall. These 2 communities are on the list of the first 11 communities under Canada Post plans to face the loss of this service. When postal workers knocked on the doors in these neighbourhoods, we were greeted with people anxious to sign the petition and offering to join in to oppose the changes.

As CUPW continues to assist the public in fighting back against Canada Post and the Conservative government’s plans to destroy our public post office, the amount of people raising their voices in opposition rises. Postal workers, by knocking on doors, setting up tables, leafleting, are giving the public their opportunity to join in the campaign. CUPW Atlantic region will persist in our campaign to stop Canada Post plans and we will increase our efforts in every community to ensure that their plans will be challenged.

If you would like to join in the campaign in the Atlantic Region please contact Toni MacAfee, Atlantic Region Education and Organization Officer CUPW at (902)454-5812.

  1. You are LUCKY and living in the past man.

All 27 EU Countries mandate all post offices to be privatized.

U.K.,Finland, New Zealand and Sweden, have ended their government-enforced monopoly. Germany and Netherlands have privatized their main postal companies.
